FAQ

Lathes and milling machines are two essential machines used in the manufacturing industry. While both involve the use of a cutting tool to remove material from a workpiece in the form of a swarf (chips), they aren’t necessarily the same. Both lathes and milling machines have their unique functions and purpose. A lathe is a large machine similar to a workbench. It is designed to rotate a workpiece against a single blade cutting tool. A mill is a machine used to remove material from a workpiece by feeding the workpiece against a multi-bladed or pointed cutting tool.

We work together with Trading – Places therefore once you have completed the training and load your details onto their database, they will contact you should they receive job specifications that meet your CV requirements.

Passing the exams with a 75% pass mark, you will receive a certificate of competency to confirm your skills learned during the course. This certificate is a recognizable certificate that can be added to your CV to increase your skillset presentation for potential employment.

A CNC operator has more hands-on and practical work  which includes setting and operating CNC machines, they als maintain  and oversea the CNC machine along with load materials and aim the instruments. A CNC programmer would be responsible for writing a program in order for the machine to read the program and machine the part.

Rewrites are available and can be arranged – the student has a maximum of  rewrites available before they would need to reattend the course, rewrites are charged at an additonal fee.

This depends on the students requirements – we have a lot of students who opt to start with the lathe training and then work their way up to milling as the lathe is generally a bit easier to grasp. They are both common machines in the industry and the decision can be based of the type of machine they want to work on.
